1. Introduction
At My Engineer Ltd, we are committed to promoting sustainability in all aspects of our operations. As a small engineering company providing pre-purchase house survey reports in Galway and Mayo, we recognise the environmental, social, and economic impacts of our work. Our mission is to operate in a responsible manner, minimising our environmental footprint while delivering high-quality, professional services to our clients.
This policy outlines our commitment to sustainability, focusing on our environmental impact, ethical practices, and social responsibility within the context of our operations.
Our company is committed to sustainability, safeguarding that our operations, services and decisions be a positive factor to the environment, social and economic well-being. This policy outlines our commitment to reduce our footprint, supporting our local community and gaining long-term customers.
This policy relates to all employees and all that work with our organisation, ensuring a united front to sustainability
2. Environmental Commitment
As part of our dedication to environmental stewardship, we actively take steps to minimise the negative impacts of our business operations. These actions include:
a. Sustainable Travel
We use electric vehicles (EVs) for all travel associated with our business operations, including property surveys across County Galway and County Mayo. This reduces our carbon emissions and reliance on fossil fuels.
We will continue to explore ways to optimise routes and reduce energy consumption in our EVs through efficient planning and scheduling.
b. Paperless Office
As a fully paperless office, we strive to eliminate paper waste by adopting digital tools for all aspects of our business. This includes using cloud storage for document management, digital communication, and project management.
We encourage clients to adopt electronic communications, including digital delivery of survey reports, to further reduce paper consumption. We also have reduced our waste and paper waste through these efforts and where waste is generated we actively segregate these and recycle as much as possible.
c. Energy Efficiency
Our office is powered by energy-efficient lighting and appliances, and we strive to reduce energy consumption across all our operations. We have installed LED and PIR Sensor lights to reduce the waste of electricity.
We will explore renewable energy sources for our office, where feasible, and adopt practices to reduce our overall energy use.
d. Waste Management
We commit to reducing, reusing, and recycling as much of our office waste as possible. We aim to minimize landfill waste by recycling paper, plastics, and electronic waste (e-waste).
We will continue to review our waste practices and identify opportunities for further improvements.
3. Social Responsibility
At My Engineer Ltd, we understand the importance of our role in the community. We actively seek to make a positive impact in the following areas:
a. Employee Well-being
We are committed to providing a safe and healthy work environment for our team. This includes regular health and safety training, ergonomic workspace design, and fostering a culture of work-life balance.
We encourage our employees to contribute ideas and solutions that can help improve sustainability within the company.
b. Supporting Local Communities
We are dedicated to supporting the local economy and communities within County Galway and County Mayo. This includes working with local suppliers and contractors and contributing to initiatives that promote sustainability.
We will also seek opportunities to collaborate with local environmental groups or participate in community sustainability initiatives.
4. Ethical Practices and Governance
As a responsible business, we adhere to ethical practices and good governance to ensure the long-term success and sustainability of the company.
a. Transparent Business Practices
We operate with transparency and integrity, ensuring that all our business activities comply with relevant environmental regulations and best practices.
We commit to fair pricing and ensure that our services are accessible to a wide range of clients while maintaining high professional standards.

We will set measurable sustainability goals and track our progress annually to ensure our initiatives have a meaningful impact.
6. Advising Clients on Energy Efficiency and Sustainability in Homes
At My Engineer Ltd, we recognise that the homes our clients purchase have a significant impact on both their energy consumption and the environment. As part of our commitment to sustainability, we actively advise our clients on how to improve energy efficiency and reduce the carbon footprint of their new homes. Our recommendations include a range of strategies to ensure that homes are not only comfortable and functional but also energy-efficient and environmentally responsible.
a. Upgrading Insulation
We strongly recommend that clients consider upgrading the insulation in the homes they purchase. Proper insulation in walls, attics, and floors can greatly reduce heat loss in the winter and keep homes cooler in the summer, resulting in lower energy bills and reduced carbon emissions.
We advise our clients to consult with professionals about upgrading insulation materials to meet modern energy efficiency standards, such as using high-performance insulation boards or blown-in cellulose insulation.
b. Triple Glazing for Windows
We encourage clients to replace old or single-glazed windows with triple-glazed windows. Triple glazing provides superior insulation by reducing heat transfer, improving comfort, and significantly lowering energy costs for heating and cooling.
This upgrade is particularly important in homes with large windows or in areas with cold or fluctuating temperatures, as it enhances both energy efficiency and noise reduction.
c. Reducing Energy Consumption in the Home
We provide advice on how to minimize overall energy consumption through smart habits and the installation of energy-efficient appliances. This includes recommending the use of LED lighting, energy-efficient heating systems, and low-energy electrical appliances that carry high energy ratings.
We also suggest simple changes such as installing programmable thermostats, encouraging clients to adopt energy-saving habits like turning off lights when not in use, and optimizing heating systems to operate more efficiently.
d. Integration of Renewable Technologies
To further reduce reliance on non-renewable energy sources, we advise clients on the benefits of renewable energy technologies. This can include the installation of solar panels, heat pumps, or wind turbines, depending on the home’s location and energy needs.
We encourage our clients to explore solar water heating systems or photovoltaic (PV) solar panels, which can significantly reduce electricity costs and lower environmental impact.
Additionally, we advise on ground-source or air-source heat pumps as highly efficient alternatives to traditional gas or oil heating systems. These systems use renewable energy from the earth or air to provide heating and hot water, reducing carbon emissions.
e. Energy Performance Certification
We recommend that clients request a Building Energy Rating (BER) for the property they are considering purchasing. These ratings provide an overview of the home's energy efficiency and highlight areas for potential improvement, helping clients make informed decisions about future upgrades.
By offering these energy efficiency and sustainability recommendations, we help our clients make more informed decisions that not only reduce long-term energy costs but also contribute to the overall reduction of their environmental footprint. At My Engineer Ltd, we are committed to supporting clients in creating homes that are both comfortable and eco-friendly, now and in the future.
7. Conclusion
At My Engineer Ltd, we believe that sustainability is essential to the long-term success of our business. We will continue to prioritise environmental responsibility, ethical business practices, and social engagement. By making sustainability a core part of our operations, we aim to reduce our environmental impact while continuing to provide high-quality, professional survey services to our clients.
Our direct approach to sustainability development is to positively have an influence on our planet, people and profitability. We are committed to creating a future where business success aligns with global sustainability goals.
